![]() Installing a side folding SB Tactical Stabilizing Brace on the KP9 makes this firearm an even more capable performer. The compact and lightweight nature of the KP9 also makes this firearm ideally suited to be used in confined spaces, including inside a building, in a vehicle, and onboard a vessel. The Kalashnikov KP9 is ideally suited to be used for personal protection, home defense, recreational shooting, and as a backpack/survival firearm. Once again, the KP9 functioned flawlessly. This included firing the KP9 while loaded with 9mm 124 grain Federal FMJ, 9mm 158 grain IWI FMJ, 9mm 115 grain Hornady Critical Defense, 9mm 135 grain Hornady Critical Duty, 9mm 147 grain Federal Hydra Shock, 9mm 124 grain Federal HST and 9mm 124 grain Speer Gold Dot. When I continued to evaluate the KP9, I made it a point to operate this firearm with a variety of Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) and premium brand hollow-point ammunition. Kalashnikov KP9 Review: Ammunition Friendly KP9 This is especially the case when you engage targets beyond Close Quarters Battle distances. At the very least, the SB Tactical Brace does exactly what it was designed to do and is effective in “Stabilizing” your shooting position. While conducting these field tests, I also found that installing an SB Tactical Brace, does increase the capabilities of these types of firearms. I changed my way of thinking, once I had the opportunity to field test several firearms that fall into this category and I found that I was able to effectively engage targets at CQB distances and beyond, to 30, 50, and 70 yards. I must admit, that for some time, I was not a fan of firearms that are legally designated as a “pistol,” that are larger in overall dimension than the traditional pistols that can be carried concealed. Installing the SB Tactical Stabilizing Brace is achieved by removing a pin on the rear of the receiver. Once I knew that the Kalashnikov KP9 was “good to go” in the pistol-only form, I ordered an SB Tactical Stabilizing Brace for this outstanding firearm. This is quite a compliment because I’ve encountered other magazines that held fewer rounds of ammunition, that were a lot more difficult to load. I should also mention, that the KP9 30-round polymer magazines are very easy to load. This was easy to accomplish because the KP9 has excellent ergonomics, is relatively lightweight, is extremely well balanced, has excellent sights, and has a superb trigger. All it took to achieve these hits, was to use the right stance, the right sight alignment, and the proper trigger control. This became evident when I quickly burned through three 35-round magazines, that were loaded with Aguila 9mm 147 grain FMJ ammo.īest yet, the KP9 also proved to be incredibly accurate, so much so, that I was able to effectively engage very small targets, at a distance of some 30 yards, from a standing unsupported position. As someone who has trained with, qualified with, and carried a 9mm submachine gun, I immediately noticed that the KP9 was incredibly fast firing for a semi-automatic firearm. When I test-fired the Kalashnikov KP9 for the first time I was beyond impressed. As a result, Rick is ideally suited to offer a professional opinion, especially when I evaluate AK variant firearms. Last but not least, Rick grew up in Soviet-controlled Poland, which means his familiarity with Soviet/Russian weapons dates back to his days living behind the Iron Curtain. Air Force PJs and USAF Rescue Officers, for several years during The Global War on Terrorism. In addition, Rick conducted Foreign Enemy Weapons Training for U.S. As I mentioned in other reviews, Rick is a retired school district patrol sergeant and a former member of the sheriff’s department, who served as a firearms instructor for both agencies. When I finally put a few rounds downrange, I made a few more additional mental notes and discussed my initial observations with my best friend, Rick Batory. The day I test-fired the PSA AKV 9mm, I made it a point to examine the weight and balance of this particular firearm, as well as its fit and finish. When I initially considered buying an AK 9mm Pistol, I was leaning toward purchasing a 9mm PSA AKV. The other 9mm Pistol was made by a different company. The remaining two firearms, including the KP9, were 9mm variants. Five of these firearms were chambered in rifle calibers, including. To date, I have field-tested a number of firearms that have been designated as a pistol, that can also be legally equipped with a Stabilizing Brace. This same firearm can also be converted to a Short Barrel Rifle or SBR, by submitting a Form 1 to ATF and paying $200 dollars. This particular firearm can be fired as a “dedicated” handheld pistol, with the option of also being operated with a Stabilizing Brace. In this Test and Evaluation for Kalashnikov KP9 review, we will be examining this pistol.
